Filtering

Transcelerator allows the questions in the main window to be filtered in three different ways. When the questions are filtered, it only affects which questions you see in the table, not which questions will be included when generating a checking script or producing Scripture Forge output files. Note: If you do not want to use a particular question at all, you can exclude it.

Reference Range

Over the normal course of a Scripture translation project, a team will usually be focusing on checking specific books or portions. Therefore, it is important to be able to filter the questions to see only the ones that are relevant for the passage or passages that are currently of interest. To filter by reference range, do the following:

  1. On the Filter menu, select Set Reference Range.
  2. The From and To boxes work just like the reference selector in Paratext. To enter the start and end references do the following:
    1. Type the standard Paratext 3-letter book code or select it from the dropdown list, which is in canonical order. The up and down arrow keys can be used to select the desired book. Press the Spacebar or Tab key to advance to the chapter box. (You can also click the box with the mouse.)
    2. Type the chapter number (or click the arrow buttons to increment or decrement the chapter number). Press the Spacebar or Tab key to advance to the verse box. If you are used to typing a colon (:) between chapter and verse numbers, that also works.
    3. Finally, enter the verse number.
    4. To move between the From and To boxes, simply click with the mouse, or use the keyboard shortcuts Alt+F and Alt+T. Pressing Tab while in the verse number box takes you back to the book list.
  3. Click OK to apply the selected reference range.

To remove a reference range filter, in the Filter by Reference dialog box, click Clear Filter.

Note: the built-in questions in Transcelerator are based on the “English” versification and always appear in the grid in conformance with that system. Therefore, the Filter by Reference dialog box always uses the English versification as well. When generating scripts, the verse numbers of the questions are converted to the versification used in the project if necessary.

Questions with Biblical Terms

To filter the list of questions to show only those which have no key biblical terms or whose biblical terms have vernacular renderings, on the Filter menu, point to Biblical Terms and then select Show Questions Where All Terms Have Renderings. This filter can be used to allow a translator to focus on questions that do not have terms with no identified renderings, perhaps while waiting for decisions to be made about how to render certain terms.

On the other hand, it might be also be helpful to see questions that use key biblical terms which are lacking renderings in the target vernacular in order to prioritize the decision-making process for those terms. To filter the list of questions to show only those which have key biblical terms lacking any vernacular renderings, on the Filter menu, point to Biblical Terms and then select Show Questions With Terms Missing Renderings.

To remove either of the above filters, on the Filter menu, point to Biblical Terms and then select Show All (no filter). This will not clear the other types of filters.

Note: In cases where a key biblical term does not have any user-confirmed renderings, it is still considered to have a rendering if Paratext is able to make a statistically likely guess at the renderings. See more information about biblical terms.

Textual Filters

To look for questions that ask about a specific topic, use a certain term, or have a particular phrase or grammatical construct of interest, Transcelerator offers general textual filtering. This filtering applies to the source questions (in the current user interface language), not to translations. To filter for a particular word or phrase, type it in the Question Filter box on the main window’s toolbar. To match whole words only, on the Filter menu, select Match Whole Words When Filtering. To remove a textual filter, simply delete the text in the Question Filter box.

Filter Status

The rightmost portion of the toolbar in the main window indicates whether the questions are currently filtered or unfiltered. Next to that you can see the number of questions that remain to be translated of those currently showing. If there is a filter set, these counts will include only those questions that match the filter.
